# I connected a Jira project and it changed the icons of my issue types. What do I do now?

> **In short:** If a company-managed Jira project is connected to Ketryx using the "Use Ketryx issue types, screens and workflows" Ketryx scheme, Ketryx configurations, schemes, and custom fields will be applied to the project. They will be automatically pushed if the project is empty.

If a company-managed Jira project is connected to Ketryx using the "Use Ketryx issue types, screens and workflows" Ketryx scheme, Ketryx configurations, schemes, and custom fields will be applied to the project. They will be automatically pushed if the project is empty. If the project contains >0 items, schemes will be pushed when the scheme is manually applied to the project in Jira. Either way, if there are conflicting issue types, Ketryx may cause global configuration changes to the Jira instance.

- If a conflict in _Issue Type Names_ exists, with the exception of Task and Test Execution, and if the conflicting issue type is hierarchy level 0. the icon used for the issue type will result in global configuration changes if the existing icon was not the one that Ketryx uses. This is an aesthetic impact, not a functional one, but nevertheless may be surprising.
- If the conflicting issue type is not at hierarchy level 0, Jira will not allow two issue types of the same name, so it will tag the existing issue type with \[epic\] or \[primary\] - ex. “Requirement \[primary\]”. All existing issues of this type will now show that their type is “Requirement \[primary\]”. This is an aesthetic impact, not a functional one.

If the connection is made and this happens, using Item type names to rename the Ketryx default item type will not solve it by creating a new issue type, it will rename the issue type that has been rekeyed. Instead, you need to first create a new issue type in Jira (using the name you want to switch the Ketryx default to), and then use the [_Item type names_ advanced setting](https://docs.ketryx.com/reference/advanced-settings#item-type-names) to rename the Ketryx default to that name.

To avoid these potential global configuration changes, **we recommend reviewing Issue Type Names in the Jira Instance and de-conflict any Issue Type Names that overlap with [Ketryx default item types,](https://docs.ketryx.com/reference/advanced-settings#item-types) prior to connecting Ketryx to an empty Jira project.**

To deconflict an issue type, first create a new issue type in Jira (using the name you want to switch the Ketryx default to), and then use the [_Item type names_ advanced setting](https://docs.ketryx.com/reference/advanced-settings#item-type-names) to rename the Ketryx default to that name.
